Madonna's Surprise Times Square Takeover Debuts New The Square Performance Space
On June 5, 2026, Madonna performed a surprise concert in Times Square to publicly unveil The Square, a new performance venue built around a stage with retractable doors that open directly onto Times Square itself. The reveal centered on the venue's 18,000-square-foot digital billboard and its proprietary "Square Stream" audio system, which transmits sound in real time straight to attendees' personal devices rather than fighting the Square's ambient noise with traditional speakers.
Jeff Marks, CEO of Innovative Partnerships Group — the company behind the venue alongside real estate partner SL Green — described the launch as "a fundamental shift in how experiences are conceived, created, and distributed." Tom Harris, President of the Times Square Alliance, said The Square "has elevated that status through the roof."
Madonna's set ran six songs and included her first complete live performance of "I Love New York" since 2006. The show doubled as a Pride Month celebration, co-produced with dating app Grindr. Further programming at the venue has been confirmed but not yet announced, with Innovative Partnerships Group positioning the debut as the first of many large-scale moments planned for the space.
